We beg to oall your attention to a mostertõus lat 4 be
of affairs in connection with our Company, arising out of an action
of the British Government of Hongkong to which we respectfully ask
your attention.
The facts as far se we are at present informed upon the
subject, are as follows:-
We undertook a contract under which we sold 011 to the
value of £67,500 to a Swiss buyer acting under the Societe Suisse
de Surveillance, to be delivered at Marseilles for transit to
Switzerland. It is perhaps needless to remind you that this Swise
Organization is the one with which British Merchants are permitted
to trade by the authority of H.M. Government.
A confirmed Banker'a Oredit was passed through London Bankers, namely,
the London County Westminster & Parr's Bank & the Hongkong
put
Shanghai Banking Corporation, through whom all shipping documents were to be sent, thus insuring that all Government requirements were fully complied with. The shipment of Oil was being'on board a Steamer in Shanghai which sailed on November 28th for Hongkong, at that Port the consignment was to be transhipped into the S. S. "Ganges'
